The high-horsepower of KZ-specification karts will be on show for the first time in years at local level in Queensland when the Ipswich Kart Club kicks off its season on Saturday February 1. The excitement of the six-speed, 50 horsepower karts, will attract much attention from racers and spectators alike, and will provide the gearbox drivers with the perfect preparation to the first CIK Stars of Karting round at Ipswich on March 28/29.
The class will be run as KZ3, the same technical specifications as the elite KZ2 class but will allow drivers with a B grade licence to also compete, providing the perfect stepping stone for drivers considering racing at the top level in the future. Drivers will contest an eight-minute qualifying session followed by a heat of 10 laps, pre-final over a distance of 15 laps and a final of 20 laps under lights. The long races will give drivers a taste of what they can expect March’s CIK Stars of Karting Series opener.
Inaugural Race of Stars winner Chris Hays and 2013 Drivers’ Driver Kel Treseder have already confirmed their attendance at the meeting, as well as many other regular CIK Stars of Karting Series front runners. This event will be the perfect time for any driver to gauge their skills against the best Australia has to offer.
The KZ3 category will be contested at three rounds including this event with the dates for the other two rounds will being March 1 and May 24.
Pre-Entries are open now on the AKA’s CM:S System and entries will close on January 29.
