The Albury Wodonga Kart Club hosted a successful opening day of the 2016 SP Tools Junior Sprockets program on Wednesday.
Each of the participants, 20 of whom had never driven a kart before, came away from the program with a great insight into the sport of karting.
Driving the Vortex and IAME powered Arrow and Kosmic karts, the program provided these budding young karters with the thrill and excitement of kart racing in a safe and controlled environment while being educated by professional instructors and drivers.
Head Junior Sprockets Instructor Troy Hunt was exceptionally pleased with the outcome from the opening day of 2016.
“I’ve been involved in karting for almost 25 years now and without doubt Wednesday was one of my most enjoyable days in the sport,” said Hunt.
“To see these kids go through the program and have a smile from ear to ear at the end of the day is just amazing.
“The highlight for me was a young six year-old who had driven from Sydney with his parents and brother to be a part of the day, only to be in tears when he was about to put the suit on. We worked him and his parents slowly through the stages of the program to build his confidence up and then once he got started he didn’t want to get out.
“When he did climb out he was high fiving everyone, it was fantastic.”
The Junior Sprockets program now heads to Perth where next Wednesday’s event has reached capacity. It will be Adelaide’s turn the following week (July 20) where limited places remain for the day at Bolivar Raceway. To secure your place in the program please click here.
Three further days are scheduled in the September School Holidays in Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales on September 21 and 29 and October 4 respectively. A modified version of the Junior Sprockets program is planned for both Northern Territory and Tasmania with the dates to be confirmed.
