4th October 2017
Following months of planning, Karting Australia’s National Event Calendar for 2018 has been finalised.
Aimed at keeping a very similar schedule to 2017, the calendar has also been arranged to avoid the major motor racing and sporting events around the country where possible. To encourage participation on either side of the Tasman, there are also no clashes between the Kartsport NZ major Series’ and Karting Australia’s National Championship and Series.
The calendar is highlighted by five rounds of the Australian Kart Championship, six events on the Rotax Pro Tour Schedule, Race of Stars and State Championship events across the Country.
The Australian Kart Championship will start in South Australia at the Monarto Karting Complex on February 23-25. The event will kickstart the motorsport theme for the Festival State ahead of the Adelaide 500 Supercars race being held in Adelaide the following weekend.
The Albury Wodonga Kart Club will host its first Australian Kart Championship round on April 13-15 before the Championship heads to Newcastle for Round Three on the final weekend in May.
After being selected as the Australian Kart Championship Event of the Year in 2017, the Emerald Kart Club will again host the penultimate round of the 2018 Championship (July 27-29).
The traditional Grand Final will be held at Melbourne’s Todd Road Karting Complex on the first weekend in September.
The Todd Road circuit will also continue the tradition of hosting the opening Rotax Pro Tour event on January 26-28.
Rotax Pro Tour will then head to Dubbo on March 9-11 before the Ipswich Kart Club hosts Round Three on May 4-6.
The date of June 22-24 has been slated for Round Four with a venue to be advised before the newly extended Albury Wodonga circuit hosts the penultimate round on August 10-12.
The final round will be held on September 14-16 at a venue that is still to be advised.
The State Championship events will vary in the number of rounds with the New South Wales Kart Championship decided over three events and the Queensland Kart, South Australian and Victorian Championships two.
Northern Territory, Tasmania and Western Australia continue with their one-off formats.
It is expected that the respective State Associations will confirm the complete State Calendars in the coming weeks.
The SP Tools Junior Sprockets program will be expanded in 2018 with events split between the highly successful ‘Beginners’ module accompanied by stand-alone Sprockets PLUS days for current licence holders. A full schedule of Junior Sprockets Dates and Venues will be advised in the coming months.
