2021 NT Kart Championship has been cancelled

A message from John Gatt, President, Darwin Karting Association

After consultation with Karting Australia and Karting NT, it is with deep regret that I have to announce the cancellation of the 2021 NT Kart Championship scheduled for 9 – 11 July 2021.

Believe me when I say this is not a decision that has been made lightly. Over the past few months the Darwin Karting Association Committee has worked tirelessly to put his event together and attract entries from across Australia as well as several new sponsors, and the updating of the club’s facilities.

To our members, officials and volunteers; I know you will be disappointed, particularly given this is the second year running that we have had to cancel the championships. I can assure you, we will do everything possible to make the 2022 Championship one of our best events ever.

To our interstate competitors, including Flat Out Karts and Bunbury Kart Works from Western Australia. We have made this decision as early as possible to give you time to cancel your travel plans. Thank you for your ongoing support. Without you, the NT Kart Championships would not be the event that it is. We know the amount of preparation you put into getting here and every member of the Darwin karting community appreciates the effort you make coming to Darwin every year.

All entry fees paid to the NT Championship will be refunded in the coming days.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to our sponsors who have enthusiastically come on board to support the Club; Shannons Insurance, Cazalys Club Palmerston, Darwin Fencing & Fabrication, Autotune Mechanical, Motorsports NT, Focus Products, Hosepower Darwin, Calipso Pools and Spas, Territory Karts, Ramstar Plastics, Barramundi Adventures Darwin and Darwin Kart Hire. We look forward to working with you all in the future.

The Territory Cup scheduled for this weekend will be postponed until later in the year. There will be no racing this weekend and the track will remain closed until further notice as currently there is no clear direction from the NT Government on what the restrictions will look like once the lockdown is lifted.

Again, the Committee and I are regretful of this decision, however we must all be socially responsible at this time. We have been fortunate enough in Darwin to continue on with our lives as per usual with minimal constraints until now, the current circumstances continue to change rapidly and we must expect that we will live with some alterations to our ‘normal’ routines for some time to come. I will update you as to the track closure and local racing schedule as soon as possible. Until then, stay safe and stay at home.

Sincerely,
John Gatt, President
On behalf of the Darwin Karting Association Committee.
