SAGAIDAK SETS THE EARLY PACE IN EMERALD

The third round of the SP Tools Australian Kart Championship, presented by Castrol was contested in exciting fashion under lights at Emerald with a breakthrough win coming the way of Bailey Sagaidak in the KZ2, presented by GoPro category.

Sagaidak took the pole in the new-for-2024 IKD Kosmic team and then backed that up with the first heat race win. Championship leader, Joshua Fife didn’t finish heat number one, but shot back in heat two to win. Troy Loeskow struck back to form with a front row qualification.

In KA2, Lewis Cordato extended his Title lead with a pair of heat race victories and has positioned himself well for Saturday night’s final heat and grand finale under lights.  The opening KA2 heat came to an abrupt halt when Hamish Campbell suffered an engine failure near the front of the field at the end of the main straight on lap 3 leading to a massive multi-kart incident and subsequent red flag.  After being treated trackside, Campbell and Cooper Stapleton were transported to hospital.  Both drivers have been cleared of any major injuries but remain in hospital overnight.

Ayce Buckley struck through for his first ever heat race wins in KA3 Junior, while Dominic Penman and Mika Lemasurier both doubled up with wins in KA3 Senior.

Brad Jenner scored the win of the night in X30 after a major outside pass on Brodie Norris on the last lap in heat two to share the wins with reigning Champion, Jace Matthews.

Norris won his two TaG 125 heats with Ben Holliday and Kianh Burt winning the other two. In Cadet 12, Jack Larsen and Jay Kostecki won their heats, while Jarvis Hindle took out the sole Cadet 9 heat contested on Friday.
