PRESIDENT of the Whitsunday Go-Kart Club Adam Stroud is one of three drivers who will represent the region at the Northern Territory and Australian titles at the end of the month.

This week Stroud left the Whitsundays for Darwin where both events will be held on the same track. Stroud will race a 100cc Yamaha in the Senior National Professional class and a 125c Leopard in the Leopard Light class.

“That kart is probably able to do up to 160kms (an hour) now,” he said.

Stroud and fellow Whitsunday residents Jay and Jordan McGregor will compete against karts from all over Australia, at the Northern Territory titles from June 28-July 1 and the nationals from July 6-8.

In 2002, Stroud won the Australian titles and said this was an experience he would love to repeat.

“With the Australian titles that’s it – there’s no series throughout the year – it’s just one big race meeting and the best of the best are always there. It’s the kart meeting to win.”

Stroud and his Whitsunday counterparts will also be doing their best to spread the word about the local track.

“All the go-kart manufacturers will have teams there and they’re good people to talk to try and promote our track,” he said
