AKA LTD BOARD AND OFFICIAL’S CHANGES FOR 2017

The start of 2017 sees a new look Australian Karting Association Ltd Board.

The Board-appointed Operations Director role, held by former AKA Inc President, Craig Denton was first filled at the start of 2014. The three-year term automatically ceased at the end of 2016, reducing the number of Directors on the Board to six.

“Craig has made a massive contribution to Australian Karting both under the old and the new structure,” said Chairman Mick Doohan.

“His knowledge for the transition to the new company was vital. On behalf of the entire karting community I would like to thank Craig for his timeless commitment to our sport.

“I am also very pleased to announce that while Craig’s term as a Director lapsed at the end of the year, he has agreed to continue his work for Australian karting in the new roles of ‘Official’s Delegate’ and ‘Safety Delegate’. He will also continue to represent Australia internationally as our ‘CIK Delegate.”

Karting Australia Chief Executive Officer Kelvin O’Reilly recognised Denton’s work in the area of safety and Officials.

“Craig has done a lot of work over the past 12 months in the area of circuit safety and also with our Officials,” said O’Reilly.

“He has chaired both our Safety Committee and our Official’s Committee.

“The Board has recognised that both safety and officiating are vital areas for the sport that are deserving of having their own delegate who can focus on the specific needs of these portfolio’s.

“It’s wonderful to have Craig commit to these new roles to continue this important work. As such he will continue to Chair these committees and will also hold a position on the Events and Sporting Committee.

Denton is looking forward to the new roles as he continues his long involvement in the administration of the sport.

“My involvement in karting administration spans 26 years,” said Denton.

“I’m really pleased to be able to continue to contribute to Australian Karting in these new roles.

“Personally and as a family we have got much enjoyment out of the sport and I have always said that you get out what you put in.”

The Board has also created the position of Vintage Delegate with long time Vintage Karting participant Graham Powles being appointed to the role.
