Long-time South Australian kart racer Andrew Cash broke through to claim his maiden State Crown in the 2014 Dunlop South Australian Sprint Kart Championships at the Monarto Go Kart Complex on Sunday.
Cash was victorious in the Clubman Super Heavy class ahead of multiple-time Australian Champion Scott Simpson. 2013 SA Champion, Danny Errigo rounded out the podium.
“It is an amazing feeling to finally win a State Championship, I’ve been trying for so many years and come so close, to finally get the win is just unreal,” said Cash.
“None of this would have been possible without the support of my Dad Phil, Kym Pearce from Omega Racing Karts, Shayne Piper and a very special mention to M&D Fuels.”
The only other local driver to join Cash in the winners circle was third generation driver Josh Denton. At the venue where he secured his maiden National Championship last year, the Cockatoo Valley teenager claimed his first State Championship in the Junior Rotax class. Denton mixed it with the likes of Zane Morse, Thomas Hughes and Spencer Ackermann before coming out on top.
Sydney driver John Iafolla continued his stellar run with a hard charging victory in the Junior National Heavy class. The reigning National Champion failed to finish the pre-final before charging his way to the victory aboard his Scuderia PCR Australia entry. In a race that saw multiple lead changes, Iafolla only hit the front on the final circulation before crossing the finish line 0.068 seconds clear of Cody Donald at the chequered flag.
Another National Champion to enjoy success at the event was Dylan Hollis in the Junior National Light class. Hollis won every race across the weekend before leading home fellow Victorian Aaron Cameron and Queenslander Ryan Suhle in the final.
Victorian James Sera secured the 28th and 29th State Championships of his illustrious career with victories coming in the X30 Light and Clubman Light classes.
Western Australian youngster Jack Harders proved superior in the Rookies class while Victorian Jay Hanson proved to be superior in the Cadets class.
Horsham’s Remo Luciani won Clubman Over 40’s while Queenslander Ben Stewart secured his second state crown of the 2014 with victory in Clubman Heavy.
Victorians Daniel Rochford, Oscar Piastri and Scott King won the Rotax Light, Junior Clubman and X30 Heavy classes respectively.
