It was a case of third time lucky for Australian Kip Foster at the SKUSA SuperNationals XVIII in Las Vegas, America.
Foster, who had twice previously crossed the line first in the TaG Masters class at the event before being excluded due to minor technicalities, took the 2014 win ahead of reigning IndyCar Series Champion Will Power.
Power led the way early in the final aboard his Australian-made Arrow chassis as Foster was charging his way forward from his 13th starting position.
With a handful of laps remaining Foster closed in on the rear bumper of Power’s kart before taking over the front running and take the win.
“Will was driving a brilliant race out front and I really had to wait for my kart to come on a bit and Will’s to go off a bit. It wasn’t until about three laps to go when I thought that I had the opportunity to win because Will had a decent gap and it was a very slow catching process,” said Foster.
Joining Foster and Power inside the top ten was fellow Australian Scott Simpson in ninth spot.
In the TaG Cadet class, Jack Doohan shadowed the front-runners in the final before taking the lead on lap seven. He was then passed by Guiseppe Fusco with three laps remaining before fighting back to lead the way with one lap remaining. Fusco fought back to retake the lead on the final lap to cross the line 0.254 seconds ahead of Doohan.
Lochie Hughes finished 10th while the third Australian to make the final, Broc Feeney, was eliminated on lap three.
David Sera led the way at the half way mark in the TaG Senior final before Marco Maestranzi showed tremendous speed to close in Sera to take over the front running with a handful of laps remaining. Sera would cross the line third, one place ahead of fellow Australian Ben Stewart who started on the front row.
In the S2 class, Jason Faint was the best of the Australians in fourth place while Jordan Ford crossed the line 17th in the S1 class.
In KZ2, Kel Treseder recorded his best finish in three attempts at the event with a ninth place finish, three places ahead of Darren Burke. Sam Houston was 24th while Matthew Hunt failed to finish the final.
Unfortunately for the two Australian competitors in TaG Junior, Zane Morse and Declan Fraser, they both failed to finish the final.
