AUSTRALIAN DRIVERS SET FOR ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE GRAND FINALS IN PORTUGAL

Australia’s team of eight drivers have landed in Portugal in preparation for this week’s Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals.

The event, held at the Kartodromo Internacional Algarve in Portimão, has attracted 396 drivers from all around the world in various categories from the youngest in Micro Max through to drivers over 32 years of age in DD2 Masters.

Queenslander Troy Bretherton is the most experienced of the Australian team at the event and will line up in the DD2 Masters class.

In the DD2 Class, it is Jonathan Marcusson who will fly the Aussie flag while Harrison Hoey will line up in the Senior MAX category alongside Toby Spinks.  Sydneysider Kamal Mrad will be buoyed in confidence after gaining valuable experience at last year’s event in the Junior MAX category.  Also competing in the Junior MAX class will be Queenslander Armand Hamilton.

Wollongong’s Corey Carson, who started his karting journey in the SP Tools Junior Sprockets program, will compete in the Mini MAX class while Koda Singh will be Australia’s representative in the Micro MAX category.

All drivers at the event will be using identical equipment at the event is supplied by BRP-Rotax and chassis partners BirelART, Praga and SodiKart.

Australians have enjoyed victory at the event five times in the previous 21 events with Darrell Smith (2001 – Senior MAX Masters), Mark Wickes (2003 – Senior MAX Masters), Lee Mitchener (2016 – DD2 Masters), Cody Gillis (2017 – DD2) and Troy Woolston (2017 – DD2 Masters).  Australia has twice won the Nations Cup on two previously occasions (2011 and 2017).
