Gold Coast teenager Jack Doohan has secured a career-first podium in Europe with a second placing at the opening round of the WSK Super Master Series at the Adria International Circuit in Italy.
While torrential rain played havoc with the event all across the weekend, Doohan remained composed to be one of the leading contenders in the OK-Junior class.
Driving for the Ricky Flynn Motorsport team, Doohan was fourth in the standings after the heat races before finishing second in his pre-final to secure fourth place on the grid for the final.
As drivers battled on the rain soaked circuit, Doohan held his nerve to pass Russian Ilya Morozov in the early laps for second position, a placing he would hold until the end. Doohan greeted the chequered flag 2.9 seconds adrift of Italian Andrea Rosso who took the win. Morozov finished third.
Brisbane’s Marcos Flack was also competing at the event in the 60 Mini class, for drivers up to 12 years of age. Flack qualified third fastest of the 84-drivers in attendance on Friday before crossing the line 23rd in the final.
