Comp heats up for Emerald Kart Club this weekend - From the CQ News

The Jonker Plant Hire CQ Series Final will be a smash with competitors in Emerald tomorrow night

LOCAL karters will look to finish favourably in front of a home crowd at the Jonker Plant Hire CQ Series Final tomorrow.

A total of 13 classes will hit the track for the finals with several Emerald karters placed within the top four of their division.

Tarina Rix is among the Emerald Kart Club’s competitors who will be looking to better her second placing as she goes up against some tough competition in her CQ Sportsman Y Light class.

The Emerald Kart Club spokesman Brett Aird said it was great to see Emerald competitors positioned to do well.

“Emerald could feature well in the final results,” Aird said.

The finals concludes four rounds of competition between Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Emerald with racing to start from 2pm and be followed by qualifying sessions, heats, pre-finals and the finals.

Aird said the event could see karters from around the state take to the track, as he had fielded calls from karters in Brisbane and Townsville.

“We are expecting in excess of 100 karters,” he said.

“It’s the first major and certainly the biggest event. It’s a pretty big deal we got it.”

With so much to fit into one meet, Aird said it would continue until late and the karters would compete under the lights.

“It is our second meet under the lights,” he said.

“It certainly does increase the fun to race under the light and gives a new element. It’s also different for drivers and they seem to enjoy it.”

For the karters wanting to get one last run in before the finals, Aird said there was a practise session for all AKA-licensed drivers this afternoon from 5pm.

Aird encouraged locals to get along for the action with live entertainment, bar and canteen running until late.

A courtesy bus will be making return trips to The Centro Emerald Market at 3pm, 6pm and 8pm.
