CRG one-two at Eastern Creek - From CRG Australia

CRG Australia secured a one-two finish, and its second consecutive double podium result, in Round Four of the Castrol EDGE CIK Stars of Karting Series at Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway.

Leading the way for the team in the Pro Gearbox (KZ2) category was 2011 World Cup Champion Joey Hanssen under the Shamick Racing banner and aboard his Modena-powered CRG Road Rebel.

Jordan Ford and Joey Hanssen dominated time trials, qualifying their CRG karts on the front row. However, disaster struck when both drivers missed cut off time for the top five shootout. This relegated Ford and Hanssen to fourth and fifth respectfully.

Hanssen worked his way towards the front of the field throughout the heat races on Saturday to claim pole position for Sunday’s opening 25-lap final.

The Dutchman went on to dominate the event, followed across the line by his Shamick Racing team-mate Jordie Ford in his Maxter powered CRG Road Rebel.

In the second final, the CRG pair simply dominated to cross the line more than four seconds clear of their nearest rival.

Courtesy of his victory, Hanssen secured the NSW State Championship and extended his championship lead to a massive 69 points. Jason Pringle now moves to third in the championship aboard his Modena powered CRG Road Rebel.

In the Pro Light (KF) ranks CRG drivers Jedd Stojakovic and Ben Edwards both recovered from DNF’s in the opening final to record top ten results placing sixth and ninth in the main event. Shamick Racing’s Jordan Nicolaou also recorded a top ten finish placing eighth.

Local driver Drew Ridge upstaged many of his more fancied rivals in the Pro Junior (KFJ) category by qualifying second fastest aboard his CRG LH3. After a pair of third placings in the heat races, Ridge suffered a DNF in the opening final before charging his way from 21st place to tenth in the second 25-lap final.

“This weekend was a great success,” commented CRG Australia Team Manager Darren King.

“We had several CRG drivers across all the categories make significant gains. While the speed of the CRG kart in KZ is clear we were unlucky to not to show similar results in more classes. The team worked hard and the results are showing. I would like to congratulate the whole CRG team on a superb job.”

The final round of the Castrol EDGE CIK Stars of Karting Series will be contested at Melbourne’s Todd Road circuit in Victoria on September 21/22.
