IT may have been the last kart racing of the year, but it certainly packed a punch.
The Gladstone Kart Club had its Christmas meet on Saturday, staging 24 races.
Gladstone Kart Club president David Bennett said it was a small meeting, given it was the end of the year, but there was some great racing on the day.
“I think the highlight was the racing in the juniors,” Bennett said.
“It was very close. There was also some good racing in the Tag 100.”
In the Junior National Light, it was a close race between Josh Rogers, Mitch Bennett and Jack Bussey but Jack managed to scrape in to take the win. In the cadets category, Tristyn Martin took the win for the day.
“It was his first race off his P plates,” Bennett said.
The year has been a huge success for the kart club with the national championships held in Gladstone at Easter. “It was regarded as one of the best events the officials said they had officiated at,” Bennett said.
“We also had really good racing throughout the year.”
Next year, Bennett said he hoped for more outstanding racing, even though the state championships were to be staged in Bundaberg.
“I expect they’ll be quite a few Gladstone races in Bundy because of the close proximity,” he said.
