FIRST 15 KARTING AUSTRALIA SAFETY GRANT RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

Christmas has come early for 15 Karting Australia clubs across the country courtesy of the first round of grants in Karting Australia’s Safety Grants Program.

“The Safety Grants Program, which was launched this year, has been put in place to assist affiliated clubs to improve their safety infrastructure for the benefit of all competitors and officials who use their facilities,” said Karting Australia CEO Kelvin O’Reilly.

“It’s a first for Karting Australia and is just one component in a raft of initiatives introduced this year to progressively enhance safety at our venues.”

For Karting Australia Safety Risk and Compliance Manager Tony Manson, the announcement of the first round of Safety Grant recipients is another step forward in the improvement of safety for members across the country.

“The Safety Grants Program will work in concert with our new Safety 1^st and Risk Management Policies, KARM (Karting Australia Risk Management) Program, training and accreditation of all Track Safety Inspectors and the establishment of our new Track Safety Guidelines,” said Manson.

“Karting Australia takes safety very seriously. Motorsport safety at all levels is constantly evolving and it generally comes at a financial cost. Lifting some of the financial burden of safety improvements from the clubs is exactly what the Karting Australia Board set out to achieve in developing the Safety Grants Program.

“Not all clubs that applied for a grant were successful with their applications this year. For these clubs we will be working with them to refocus their applications or requirements so that they may be able to obtain a benefit from a grant in 2017.”

ABOUT THE KARTING AUSTRALIA SAFETY GRANTS PROGRAM
The Karting Australia Safety Grants Program is designed to assist Clubs to improve or enhance the level of safety infrastructure at Race Tracks that are licensed by it.

A maximum of $150,000 was made available by Karting Australia during 2016 under the Grants Program.

The maximum amount of grant funding that will be made available to any single Club or State Association was $10,000 (excluding GST).

Grants are provided on a “dollar for dollar” contribution basis – the body receiving the grant will be required to match the value as a minimum either financially and/or in kind.
