BirelART Australia have recorded an outstanding array of success at the latest round of the Rotax Pro Tour at the Sandy Creek Raceway in Warwick, Queensland, with five drivers on the podium, headlined by three within the top five in Rotax Light, helping to further stamp the brand’s authority as a leading team in the highly competitive series.
Across the entire weekend, the trio of Brad Jenner, Nicholas Andrews and Mitchell Maddren all displayed continued confidence and strong results, being consistently inside the top five throughout the heat races and into the finals. Whilst it was the first Rotax Light podium at the Pro Tour for Maddren, the results helped to improve the positions of Jenner and Andrews within the series points. At the conclusion of the event, Brad sits third while Nicholas’ efforts have elevated him to fourth.
Since joining the Pro Tour on a full-time basis at the beginning of the year and crossing over to use the BirelART chassis as part of the alignment with Tom Williamson Motorsport, a podium has eluded Scott Simpson in the Rotax Heavy category, however, in the first round in his home state of the year, Simpson managed to step up and take a convincing third place in the final, setting himself up for the second half of the year.
In his first meeting in the BirelART chassis, reigning Australian V8 Ute Champion Kris Walton firmed as a genuine front runner in the DD2 category. Finishing inside the top four in all heat races, Walton stepped up, running as high as second in the final before settling for third and banking critical points with three rounds in the series remaining.
Of the Junior Max drivers for BirelART Australia, Joshua Car placed as the highest finisher in the final, taking ninth, including finishing as high as second in the heat races. The results have helped Car to rise to third in the Rotax rankings after four rounds.
Steve Macken – Team Principal
“It was a fantastic weekend for the entire crew at BirelART Australia. To come away and have three of our drivers inside the top five in Rotax Light all weekend, in such a competitive and tightly contested category, is a great achievement. Also, for Scott Simpson to pick up his first podium of the year and for Kris Walton to be so fast in his first meeting in the BirelART DD2 Kart, it definitely is a credit and testament to the hard work that all the drivers have put in in the lead up to the weekend.”
“I must also thank Andy McElrea for the assistance in implementing a data engineer to our team for this weekend, it’s something that is not commonly seen in Karting but it was certainly a very welcome addition for all the drivers and it delivered a lot of positive feedback. The opportunity to have Jack Bellotti as part of the team further reflects the professionalism and continued development we aim to achieve at BirelART Australia.”
The next major event for BirelART Australia is round three of the Australian Kart Championship that takes place at Ipswich, Queensland from July 3-5.
