Horsham karters proved tough to beat in round two of the Victorian Country Series at Dooen at the weekend.
Horsham’s Ash Lear and Remo Luciani outlasted strong fields in their respective races. Lear qualified fastest for the TaG 125 Light class and won every race, including the final.
Luciani proved too strong in the Clubman Heavy class, securing both races and the final to snag overall victory.
He finished ahead of club-mate Michael Seeary, who qualified eighth and finished eighth in the final.
Wimmera Kart Racing Club president Shane Souter said Seeary took some time adjusting.
‘‘This was Michael’s first time competing with the new IAME KA100 engine,’’ he said. ‘‘He started off slowly but soon came to grasp with the workings of the new engine.’’
Three other Horsham members – Ash Mitchell, Mav Cottrell and Jordan Lee – competed in the TaG Restricted Heavy class, with Mitchell finishing sixth, Cottrell 10th and Lee 15th.
Club member Robbie Turmine showed he had a bright karting future ahead of him, qualifying seventh and finishing eighth in the Cadet 9 class.
Cadet 9 class competitors are aged between seven and nine and use a 60cc Vortex MiniRok engine. It was Turmine’s second competitive start in the sport.
In the Junior National Heavy class, Alex Baker qualified fourth for the final and started on grid two, before safely finishing just off the podium in fourth.
‘‘Alex, being wise of keeping his series in mind, was playing safe and finished the final in fourth place,’’ Mr Souter said.
