CLOSE finishes made for an entertaining  round of  Victorian Country Series go-karts at Lake Gillear on the weekend.

“It went to plan which was good,” Warrnambool Kart Club president Billy Askew said.

“We had over 140 entries and the weather turned out good after the morning and we had some good racing.

“There were some close races which made it exciting and a few people were pipped on the line.”

Portland’s Scott King was first in the TAG heavy class with Warrnambool driver Corey McCullagh second in the TAG light.

McCullagh finished second in the TAG heavy class, with fellow Warrnambool driver Daniel McKean third. Cobden’s Jett Speed won the sportsman restricted light class, Warrnambool’s Anthony Magilton was third in the clubman light section and Warrnambool’s Chris Rodda second in the restricted sportsman heavy section.

“Jay Coul was pipped on the line for fourth in the rookies,” Askew said.

The Warrnambool meeting was round two of the Victorian Country Series.

Eleven classes were contested at the once-a-year showcase at Lake Gillear.

Others rounds are at Cobden on May 19, Portland on July 21, Hamilton on September 15 and Horsham on October 19.

The series’ first round was in Ballarat in February.
