28th October 2015
It is with mixed emotions that I wish to announce my retirement from full-time karting as of this weekend’s final round of the 2015 Australian Kart Championship. This marks the end of a 23 year career in this amazing sport and I could not be more grateful for the opportunities, memories and great friendships which I have been fortunate enough to build over this time.
I have always been extremely passionate about karting and a strong advocate for the endless potential it offers youngsters to grow and develop both as a driver but also socially and emotionally. Through the highs and lows, I am thankful for the entire journey, all that I have learnt and the lifelong mates I have made.
Most importantly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who have supported me throughout my karting career- both past and present. Without your support none of it would have been possible!
Firstly to my personal and longest sponsors, Ray and Keryn Fulcher, I could not thank you enough for your ongoing support and for sharing this love of karting with me which has seen our team, KKP, secure four National Championships, 23 State Titles and the honour of racing at the SKUSA Las Vegas Supernationals for three consecutive years. I wish to thank you not only for our on-track successes but also for the endless personal support & guidance which you have provided over this time.
Secondly, I would like to acknowledge and thank my current team at DPE Kart Technology, especially Bart Price and Darren Hossack, for allowing me to finish my career as a part of one of the most professional, successful and all-round fantastic teams. As a child growing up, being a part of DPE was always a goal I had aspired to and for it to become a reality over 20 years later was a real privilege.
A big thanks also to my mechanic this year, Scott McLaughlin, who is, without a doubt, a truly good bloke both on and off the track. I really appreciate the time you have taken out of your busy schedule to be on the team, and I can honestly say I’ve had an absolute blast this year. Thanks for all the knowledge, assistance and good fun you have brought to the table.
Thank you to Jon Targett at JT Motorsport for the ongoing advice and ripper engines – a true legend of the sport!
A further thanks to my current sponsors Sweetee Citrus, FMA Motorsport and Kerb Rider for allowing me to compete at the highest level in my last season. Your support has been greatly appreciated.
Thank you to my Mum, Jill, and Brother, Robin, who have continued to support and encourage me since my first kart race at the age of 8 yrs.
Also, a big thank you to my Wife, Danielle, for embracing my love of karting and for your constant encouragement, inspiration and help to continue racing, especially at the highest level.
Finally, thank you to the entire karting community! We have a truly unique sport whereby our youngest members have the opportunity to grow and develop with the most senior and experienced drivers and all within a family-oriented environment. This is something no other sport can offer and we are lucky to share this together.
Karting Australia acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities.
We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and to Elders past and present.
