Karting Australia has released its new Track Construction and Safety Guidelines.

Developed by the National Track Safety Committee (NTSC) and Karting Australia’s Safety, Risk and Compliance Manager Tony Manson, the new guide is a significant revision of the previous track build requirements.

The new Track Construction and Safety Guidelines will assist clubs and track builders with a clear understanding of the requirements and guidelines followed by the authorised Track Inspectors across the country.

“There has been a lot a lot of work go into the new document to assist everyone involved in the process of accrediting a circuit with a clear understanding of the requirements and guidelines,” said Manson.

“The new guidelines incorporates language and descriptions for track safety measures that are consistent with other forms of motorsport and in wide use by the insurance industry and regulatory organisations.

“We have also taken the opportunity to provide fresh (and much clearer) drawings and to standardise the format including clause numbering throughout the document to enable clearer reference by all parties.”

As always, clubs, track builders and track safety officers should always be aware that the document is a guide and that decisions on track works should be discussed with and approved by authorised Track Inspectors or by the NTSC.

The new Track Construction and Safety Guidelines is accompanied by several new policies that were recently ratified by the Karting Australia Board. These policies include a new policy for development and approval of new tracks, a Safety 1st policy and a Risk Management policy.

Under the 2017 national competition rules, all Track inspectors will need to be accredited by KA for the first time. A training school and accreditation program will be conducted for all Track Inspectors in early December.
