Sydney’s Jayden Ojeda will be out to extend his lead in the Junior Max rotax rankings at this weekend’s sixth round of the Rotax Pro Tour at Warwick in Queensland with the 14 year old being well on his way towards an entry into the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Valencia, Spain in November.
After qualifying second and securing a heat race victory on Saturday at round three of theCIK Stars of Karting Championship, Jayden managed to secure second in Sunday’s two finals, thus extending his series lead in the KF3 Championship by just seven points with two rounds of the series remaining at Newcastle and Todd Road in Melbourne and Ojeda is confident of his chances at the two tracks.
“I had another great run at CIK at Puckapunyal, we are continuing to get a good bank of consistent results and it’s certainly helping our points. Going into the final two rounds at Newcastle and Todd Road I am feeling confident being that they are both tracks I have succeeded in in the past, so we should go well,” Ojeda said.
After round wins at both Todd Road and Dubbo to kick of the 2014 year in the Rotax Pro Tour, Jayden holds a comfortable lead in the Junior Max rankings with two rounds in the series remaining in addition to the National Championships at Ipswich in September. Despite his lead, Ojeda is well aware that he must continue his determined effort behind the wheel through to the end of the season.
“We have had a great season so far in the Pro Tour, especially our round victories. I have a good lead in the points but I am certainly going to continue to keep my foot down with the aim to extend that further with two rounds and the Nationals to go, it’s always very competitive at the front so I have to keep focussed all the time,” Ojeda added.
With this weekend being the first round of the series in Queensland, Jayden is excited at the chance to race at the Warwick circuit and admits it will provide for some interesting racing across the two days. With a large Junior Max field, Ojeda is placing a heavy emphasis on his on-track performance and preparing off-track in readiness for the event.
“I really like the layout of the Warwick track, it should make for some good racing. The big Junior Max field will definitely make it even more interesting. I’ve been working hard in between race meetings on my fitness to make sure I am ready for the long races over the weekend to give me that extra edge,” Ojeda concluded.
The schedule for the weekend consists of practice on Friday, with one eight minute qualifying session and three 12 lap heats on Saturday before an 18 lap pre-final and 22 lap final on Sunday.
Round six of the 2014 Rotax Pro Tour takes place at Sandy Creek Raceway, Warwick, Queensland from June 20-22.
