Piastri To Make European Debut

Oscar Piastri in action

Oscar Piastri will make his European karting debut at the IAME International Final at the new International Circuit of Le Mans, France on October 15-19.

The 13-year-old Victorian from the Oakleigh Go Kart Club will trade his usual FA Kart for a Kosmic chassis to compete in the X30 Junior category in a capacity field of 72 drivers.

It has been a successful first year in the junior classes for Piastri, taking 2nd at his first Australian Nationals in Junior Clubman, another 2nd at the Victorian State Titles and then following up with wins at the City of Melbourne Titles, the South Australian State Titles and the Junior Sprint Classic Champion of Champions races.

“I am really looking forward to testing my skills against the European drivers and experiencing the racing scene over there with a larger team and the amazing track” Piastri said.

“I want to thank Remo Luciani from Remo Racing for helping to put this opportunity together with IAME. Hopefully, it will lead to more racing in Europe next year.”

Multiple Australian champion and Piastri’s mentor James Sera said, “It’s hard to believe this is only Oscar’s third year of karting. His achievements in such a short time are pretty amazing. He has really stepped up in the faster classes this year and it will be a great experience for him to see how things are done on a world class track in Europe.”

Australian karting legend and Australian IAME importer Remo Luciani shared his thoughts.

“I have been watching Oscar for the past 12 months and during that time I have seen him improve immensely showing great skills and speed” Remo said.

“He’s maturity as a driver was proven last weekend at the final round of CIK Stars of Karting Championships at Todd Rd where he raced for only the second time in KF3, winning one heat and constantly racing in the lead group. He quite often had the fastest lap and more importantly, for a kid only 13-years-old, had the stamina to do consistent fast lap times from the start to the end of the much longer races. This is the first time I am taking a Junior driver to the IAME X30 International Final. I have been there in the past, taken many top drivers to this event over the years and every driver has returned better for it.

“The IAME International Final is now a world class event attracting some of the best drivers throughout the world. I think Oscar will do a great job at Le Mans in France and I’m looking forward to working with him, it should be a great experience.”
