Karratha driver Nicholas Rowe put in a sterling effort during qualifying at the 2012 Nash Bros. Western Australian Open Sprint Kart Championships in Bunbury today.
Riding high in confidence following a win at the New South Wales State Championships in Coffs Harbour last weekend, the KTEQ Rentals-backed driver set the pace in the both the Junior National Heavy and Junior Clubman categories today.
“It’s a great start to the weekend, but now the hard part really begins to make sure I stay there,” said Rowe.
“This makes it three pole positions for me at the State Championship level and I’ve also won three state championships so far in my career – hopefully I can improve on this number by the end of the weekend.”
Rowe rates the fast, flowing Bunbury layout as one of his favourite circuits in the country.
“I really enjoy racing here at Bunbury, it’s a great track and takes a big of aggression and patience to be successful here. You can’t yank at the steering wheel – you’ve got to be smooth all around the track.”
Qualifying behind Rowe in Junior Clubman was Thomas Schou and former National Champion Jesse Elliott while in the Junior National Heavy ranks it was James Allen who was second fastest.
Joining Rowe in the ‘Double Time’ Club during qualifying today was also Nathan Davis. The Geraldton driver set the pace in both the Clubman Light and Leopard Light categories. Behind Davis in Clubman Light came Steven Scoble and young gun Scott Foster while Luke Gabin and Kip Foster (Scott’s father) set the second and third fastest times in the Leopard Light category.
The opening round of heats will be contested this afternoon ahead of heat two and the pre-final tomorrow. The championship finals will be contested on Sunday.
