When Daniel Ricciardo stood on top of the podium after winning his maiden Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday, it was the realisation of a dream by the Western Australian.
Ricciardo started his motorsport career at the age of nine aboard a kart in Western Australia. He then went on to secure victories in numerous major events throughout Western Australia before trying his hand on the National stage.
During his debut in Australia’s elite CIK Stars of Karting Championship at Bolivar Raceway in 2002, Ricciardo was impressive on his way to crossing the line in third place.
Ricciardo would compete in selected events over the ensuing years at the highest level in Australian karting before claiming the Intercontinental A Championship in 2005.
