THE Frogs Hollow go kart track will soon be recognised as a championship course.

The Sapphire Coast Kart Club (SCKC) has been granted the privilege of hosting the Australian Karting Association’s (AKA) NSW State Championships next year.

The championship will include a five-day race card with qualifying, practice and racing, which will all be open to spectators.

Club secretary Janelle Loftus said she was ecstatic with the announcement.

“We are very happy to be accepted for such an event,” Loftus said.

“It will surely put the Frogs Hollow karting complex permanently on the racing calendar.”

Loftus said in the past the event has seen huge numbers of teams competing from all across Australia.

“The AKA NSW State Championships could host up to 300 karters, their pit crew and sponsors who will travel from all over Australia.

“The event will be a major boost to tourism.

With hundreds of people travelling for the event, Loftus said it would be a huge boon for local accommodation and eateries as the championship goes over an entire week.

Loftus said the club was now looking for volunteers to help run club events in the lead up to the championships.

“During the lead up to the championships the club’s monthly meets could attract many competitors as the karters will want to gain experience of the Frogs Hollow track.

“If you would like to help out a local sporting club, just give us a call.

“We would happily welcome you to our club,” she said.

If you are interested in volunteering contact Loftus on 0428 952 580 or email jlo95784@bigpond.net.au.

The club will host its next twilight race meet on October 12.

Spectators are always welcome and it will be a good opportunity to speak with organisers if you are interested in volunteering.
