The Stars of Karting event will launch Melbourne into ‘race week’ for the 2025 Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix, with 120 of Australia’s top kart racers set to battle at the Go-Kart Club of Victoria this afternoon.
Karting is the foundation of motorsport, producing world-class racing talent and providing the essential first step for aspiring champions. The event will feature competition across four categories – Cadet (Under 13), Elite Junior (12-15 years), Senior (15 plus), and Elite Senior Gearbox (KZ2) – showcasing the skills of the next generation of motorsport contenders and today’s karting standouts.
The Go-Kart Club of Victoria has been the proving ground for many of Australia’s top international drivers, including Oscar Piastri and Jack Doohan, both of whom enjoyed success at this venue during their formative years. It has also been home to Formula 3 driver James Wharton, who spent several years competing at the circuit, and recently announced F1 Academy driver Aiva Anagnostiadis, who began her motorsport journey through the SP Tools Junior Sprockets program at the venue. Both Wharton and Anagnostiadis will be in attendance this afternoon to support the rising stars of Australian karting.
The Supercars paddock will also have a significant presence, with PremiAir Racing’s James Golding stepping into a kart to challenge for victory in the Elite Senior category. Meanwhile, 2011 Bathurst 1000 winner Nick Percat will be leading his JND Racing Team from the pit area, further strengthening the connection between karting and Australia’s premier motorsport category.
Adding to the excitement, 18-time Australian Champion and recent Karting Australia Hall of Fame inductee David Sera will make his return to the track in the Senior category. Two-time and defending Australian Elite Senior Champion Sam Dicker, has made the journey from Western Australia to compete and several drivers are also in attendance from New Zealand.
In the Elite Junior ranks, Liam Carr is on a high following his win at the Victorian Kart Championship in Oakleigh on the weekend as he and more than 30 other drivers will be out to stand on the top step of the podium in the Elite Junior category.
As Melbourne gears up for a massive week of motorsport, the Stars of Karting event offers fans an exciting opportunity to witness the country’s best young racers in action – some of whom may one day follow in the footsteps of Australia’s biggest names in international motorsport.
The Go-Kart Club of Victoria is located at 100 Todd Road, Port Melbourne. Admission is free for spectators.
