The distinctive sound of roaring motors will echo through Smithton’s Briant Park this weekend to kick off Karting Tasmania’s major multi-round event of the year.
Circular Head Kart Club hosts the first round of the association’s Statewide Series on Sunday, with races kicking off from 9am and drivers in a variety of categories set to test themselves throughout the afternoon.
With four local entrants putting themselves in contention for a podium place, CHKC secretary Colleen Hinds said the committee was looking forward to presenting trophies to “some excited kids and adults”.
“There have been some engine changes, and just a few more changes to classes,” she said.
“It’s disrupting in the short-term, but I think in the long-term it’s going to be really good.”
CHKC entrants include Daniel Hinds, Peter Townsend, Jeremy Green and Logan Dixon, with the local contingent looking to represent their region while also vying for the club title on the day.
In particularly good form is Dixon, with Colleen saying the youngster is looking forward to racing against cadet state title holder Ethan Wyllie.
“Logan’s only had four race meetings and come home with four trophies, so he’s pretty excited,” she said. “He just wants to get close to [Wyllie].”
Members from the Launceston Kart Club, North Western Kart Club and Southern Tasmanian Kart Club will all travel to the Circular Head track; each getting their turn to host a meet in the coming months.
