DARWIN go-kart champion Bryce Fullwood has become the first Territorian to secure a ticket to the Rotax World Championships in Valencia, Spain in November.
Fullwood, a national champion and eight-time multiple state titleholder secured his spot at the weekend after a credible fourth placing at the Rotax Nationals in Ipswich, Queensland.
The 16-year-old had been competing for a top-three spot in the Rotax Pro Tour throughout the year, competing in the highly competitive class of Junior Max.
His consistent form throughout the tour placed him in contention for the outright win, however mechanical issues at two of the rounds meant he had to settle for second.
It’s a dream come true for the Year 11 Darwin High School student to represent Australia and the Northern Territory on the world stage.
“As a kid racing in Darwin I always dreamt to get on to the podium down south, it seems so surreal I now have the chance to represent Australia on the world stage,” he said.
Fullwood started his karting career at the Darwin Karting Association as a 10-year-old in the Midget class.
In July he was invited by Paul Morris, a former V8 Supercar driver and current Development Series competitor, to attend his V8 Driving School Experience on the Gold Coast for a couple of days.
Fullwood learned a few driving techniques with the help of current Development Series youngster Andre Heimgartner and quickly picked up the concept required.
