The fourth round of the 2015 Rotax Pro Tour at Warwick’s Sandy Creek Raceway has proved to be yet another successful weekend for Tom Williamson Motorsport (TWM) with the team achieving six podium results, two of which coming from the oversubscribed Junior Max field, setting up a successful second half of the season with three rounds remaining.
It proved to be a positive weekend from the outset for the TWM Junior Max drivers, with qualifying seeing Alec Morse take pole position over older brother Zane in second with Joshua Fife placing himself in third overall in the 57 kart strong field. Zane would go on to be unbeaten across all three heat races and the finals, eventually wrapping up the victory, making it three round wins in a row. For the second time this season, Joshua Fife stepped onto the Pro Tour podium, claiming third with Alec Morse settling for sixth in the final, improving his position to fifth in the standings with Fife now sixth.
For Timothy Colombrita and Cameron Longmore, the weekend proved successful through the early stages in the heat races with Colombrita finishing as high as third before engine dramas struck, seeing him finish the final in 15th. Longmore started the weekend on a high, finishing the opening two heat races inside the top ten before engine issues would bring about seeing him finish 23rd in the final. The Warwick event was a successful one for TWM Mini Max driver Jaiden Pope. After qualifying second outright, Pope claimed second in the opening two heat races before stepping up to take the win in heat three and the pre-final, a result he then mirrored in the final, recording his first round win of the Pro Tour season.
Sydney’s Adam Hunter returned to the top five overall in DD2 Masters, claiming second and cementing his position in third in the series overall. After being absent from the Albury event, Kris Walton stepped back into the DD2 class, with it being his first event aboard the BirelART Kart, Walton secured third after being as high as second during the final and finishing each of the races across the weekend inside the top four.
After delivering top six finishes throughout the heat races, the final of Rotax Heavy proved to be the best finish for Scott Simpson, recording his first Pro Tour podium of the season, finishing third. Of the Rotax Light drivers for TWM, Nathan Tigani fought back from an unfortunate start to the weekend where he was faced with a multitude of unfortunate situations on-track before stepping up to take seventh in the final while Cody Gillis was struck with a DNF in the pre-final after having finished fourth in heat two and three with the Sydney driver coming from the rear of the field to take ninth in the final.
Tom Williamson – Team Principal
“It was yet another successful weekend for TWM at the Pro Tour. Our junior drivers impressed as always and it was great to see Josh (Fife) step up and take his first podium of the season. To see Scott (Simpson) and Kris (Walton) claim a podium and having Adam (Hunter) back at the front is fantastic and it places all the drivers in a very good position ahead of the remaining three rounds of the year.”
“I have to also congratulate Jaiden Pope on achieving his first round win of the year in the Mini Max class, he is certainly developing well and should achieve yet more front running results before the year is out. I have to thank Mark and Adam from Karting World and Steve from BirelART Australia for their ongoing support of all the TWM drivers and I’m looking forward to hitting the track again soon.”
The next major event for Tom Williamson Motorsport will be round three of the Australian Kart Championship at Ipswich, Queensland from July 3-5.
