A growing base of Tom Williamson Motorsport drivers have taken advantage of pre-event testing opportunities at the Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway ahead of this weekend’s fifth round of the Rotax Pro Tour, with the team feeling upbeat about their chances in their respective categories as the second half of the season kicks off and the hunt for season glory continues.
Canberra’s Zane Morse headlines the seven Junior Max drivers under the TWM banner with his current number one position in the series points. Promising speed in testing has Morse looking in a good position to come away with more success, though it was his brother Alec who pipped him at the post at the last round in Warwick to take pole position. Joshua Fife’s continued development behind the wheel this season has elevated him to become a regular challenger at the front of the field and the experience of this trio has subsequently helped to further develop fellow TWM drivers Cameron Longmore, Anthony Wiskich and Timothy Colombrita as they build on their experience at the top level.
For Nathan Tigani and Cody Gillis, success at recent rounds of the Pro Tour as part of the Rotax Light class, in addition to good results in testing and the lead up shake down meeting have their pair on the fringe of the top three in the series points standings. With it being a home round for both Tigani and Gillis, they are looking to make the most of their experience and convert it into bringing home some silverware.
The last round of the series in Warwick was a breakout one for Mini Max’s Jaiden Pope with the weekend bringing his first overall round victory since joining the new category. Pope will be looking to return to that form at Eastern Creek in an effort to continue his climb up the series standings. In just the second event for the category in Australia, TWM will have a driver as part of the Micro Max category with Cody Maynes-Rutty stepping up to make his debut.
Currently sitting third in the rankings, Adam Hunter will enter this weekend full of confidence in the DD2 Masters category after a strong showing at the recent shakedown meeting. Hunter managed to take a clean sweep of wins across the board in the open DD2 category, setting up the chance for the Karting World driver to climb the points order. Rotax Heavy driver Scott Simpson will be looking to back up from his impressive performance in Warwick which saw him claim his first podium of the season in the series, while another notable showing by Kris Walton at the last round, his first aboard the BirelART Kart, placed him regularly inside the top three, an achievement that the current Australian V8 Ute driver will be looking to replicate.
Tom Williamson – Team Principal
“The break between rounds of the Pro Tour has given the TWM drivers a good opportunity to freshen up on setup and make the most of a couple of test days at the Eastern Creek track ahead of this weekend. In addition to this, with a couple of our drivers having achieved a good bank of success at the shakedown meeting, it has placed us in a good position to come away with some big results at a very important part of the season.”
“Already this year, it has been fantastic see our drivers come away with some very successful results, headlined by round wins and many of them are firming as prime challengers for the top three placings in their respective classes for the Rotax World Finals. It will be important to focus on each round as it comes, keeping in mind the need to achieve consistent results and gain as many points as possible along the way.”
The next major event for Tom Williamson Motorsport will be round five of the Rotax Pro Tour at Eastern Creek, NSW from July 17-19, incorporating the 2015 Jason Richards Memorial.
