It was a weekend of firsts for Jarryd Ebzery competing in the first round of the Australian Kart Championship.
Ebzery made the transition to the KZ2 class over the summer, moving from Harrington Doyle Racing to CRG Team Australia.
“It was my first race meeting in a KZ2 alongside my first race with the CRG Team. I must thank Harrington Doyle Racing for their continued support across the last three years in my KF racing with the opportunity to race KZ2 with the CRG Team and all the knowledge they have is too good to resist,” said Jarryd.
Ebzery placed 12th at the Go Kart Club of Victoria complex after qualifying 11th.
Joining Ebzery for the Australia Karting Championship is new sponsorship from local businesses of his hometown of Mackay, Protile Queensland and Subway alongside continued support from Sportspower Mackay.
“With the support of Protile on-board this year, it will aid in the extra testing required to be competitive much sooner in the KZ2 class. Subway Mackay’s Jason Price has also helped with the much needed testing with supplying a kart to practice with before the delivery of my new CRG chassis and Maxter engine,” reflected Ebzery.
The weekend held no expectations other than learning “It was all about the process of learning what you don’t know and improving on that,” stated Ebzery.
After Friday practice finishing 20th in lap times he was able to jump up to 11th fastest after Saturday’s qualifying session. Following three solid heat races Ebzery lined up 12th for the Sunday’s Final. Ebzery had a good get away from the line in the final with the lack of experience hurting him not being able to punch out fast lap times in the early part of the race sliding down a few positions. Though once he was able to find a rhythm, he set competitive laps times.
“I thought I may be able to achieve a top 15 result at some point through the weekend but to be inside the 15 all weekend was exciting. With help from all the crew at CRG, Mattia, Darren and Chris alongside other team drivers Kyle Ensby, Jaie Robison, Mathew Erdmann and Jason Pringle made the weekend as competitive as it was,” reflected Ebzery.
