WATCH out, Will Power.

There is another Toowoomba driver named Will who is fast making a name for himself.

Karting star Will Brown has only been racing for 18 months but he’s already at the top of his game.

The 14-year-old has been unstoppable this year, crossing the line first at the Queensland Closed Titles and CIK Stars of Karting among a host of other events.

And he is also set to claim the Toowoomba club championship after dominating his home track.

Will had mixed results in his first few races in the junior light division but he said everything had come together in 2012.

“When we hopped into it they said it would take about 12 months to get going,” he said.

“We poled second in qualifying at Gladstone for state titles last year after eight months of doing it.

“But then the nerves got on and I didn’t go too well in the racing. I think I got ninth overall.

“We’ve come good this year. We’ve done a bit of racing with a couple of the big meets and won a fair few of them.”

Will comes from a long line of motoring enthusiasts and he said kart racing was always exciting.

“There’s always someone to race around with,” he said.

“We have a lot of close racing in the junior national light classes and just a lot of fun.”

Will competes at most events in his Yamaha KT100J but said he planned to tackle more races in the bigger Rotax J-Max 125 next year.

“I think in the KT100J we can hit up to about 105kmh and in our large one we can get to about 115kmh or more,” he said.

“We’ve had the big one for about five months but only done about three races in it.

“Hopefully we can do all right in that class. We’re just getting into it.

“We’re going to do a couple of big ones next year and see how we go.”

Will said he looks up to IndyCar driver Power but he wanted to take a slightly different career path when he moves up from karting.

“I’d like to get into the bigger stuff but probably not what he’s doing. I want to drive V8s like the supercars,” he said.

“A lot of the people who are in them did race go karts before it.”
